Jeru The Damaja Freestyle

Here's a freestyle for you guys straight from Jeru the Damaja. Jeru has been on the east coast scene for years now, his collection of work contains classic production from legends like DJ Premier. And Jeru always holds it down on the mic with his lyricism. He's having a little fun on this one with Rahzel providing the beat box, but if you haven't heard any other of his material check out the track "Ain't the Devil Happy," below.

Erykah Badu & Madlib- "Strawberry Incense"

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of posting lately it has been a hectic week at school and time management is not exactly my specialty. Anyway, lets get things rolling again with this new track from Erykah Badu off her upcoming album "Return of the Ankh." This features production from Madlib, who is on fire in the early stages of this year. Badu is one of the more talented singers out there with a heavy hip-hop influence, so check out her website which has the track playing in the background.

Reflection Eternal- In This World Music Video

The first Reflection Eternal album (Train of Thought) is some of the most soulful hip hop you'll ever hear. I consider it to be a classic, when Talib Kweli and Hi Tek come together it's a guarantee that beautiful things will come out of it. Therefore, the hip hop world is eagerly waiting for this album "Revolutions Per Minute," to drop. This is one of the singles from the project called "In this World." Kweli is one of the smartest rappers out there and he rips this beat apart. We also finally get to hear the famous Jay Z line from "Moment of Clarity" sampled and scratched by Hi Tek on a Kweli track. To remind everybody, this is when Hova declared that, "If skills sold truth be told, I'd probably be, lyrically Talib Kweli." Despite my dislike for Jay Z, I can't say he's wrong with that statement. Check below for the track and I also included song "Too Late," from the first Reflection Eternal. Pay money for this shit when it comes out in April, it'll be worth it.

Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx "Rearview"

Man, Marco Polo has been on a roll the past couple years. From "Port Authority" to his collaboration with Torae on "Double Barrel", he's been cookin up bangers that are impossible to ignore. Ruste is a quality emcee and there's no doubt that these two will mesh together nicely on this record. Take a listen to this track from the album "The eXXecution," which should be coming out on the Duck Down label within a couple of months. I've also included solo joints from both Marco Polo and Ruste Juxx to let y'all know what these guys are capable of.

JROCC Spins New Madvillain

This has been on the Internet for awhile, but it's never not the right time to promote MF Doom and Madlib. These are snippets from the new project, Madvillain 2, which should be coming out sometime this year. The first collaboration between these two was a classic, so everyone has high expectations for the sequel. Give it a listen and get excited. I also included the track "Strange Ways," from the first album to give you guys an idea of what to anticipate.

New Slick Rick Freestyle

Folks, there is only one Slick Rick and whenever he puts out new material, its worth your while to listen. That verse he had on Mos Def's album last year was ridiculous, The Ruler is still killin it and he dropped this freestyle on his Facebook page. Give it a listen and be grateful. When people use the word swag in daily conversation, this is what they should be talking about.

Throwback Joint: The Pharcyde- She Said (Jay Dee Remix)

The throwback joint for tonight is completely different from my last post, which featured Diabolic and Vinnie Paz spitting hardcore lyrics. One of the reasons I am starting this blog is to introduce all different kinds of hip hop music to my readers. Some people are into what is called "gangsta" rap, while others prefer the more laid back kind of hip hop, such as De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest. I am a firm believer that all Hip Hop, (minus most of the stuff that is played on the radio), has value and should not be discredited by close-minded people who may have a certain taste. Therefore, by making this blog I feel it's my duty to give exposure to everything that is creative, genuine, and meaningful. Enough rambling, this track here is off a remix collection released by The Pharcyde. The production here comes from the great J Dilla, so you know it's dope. This song is so soothing, the lyrics are words that everyone can relate to, and even the video is well-made. All the smokers out there should light up, lay back, and vibe out to this one. Peace.
